CHARLESTOWN — Amani Boamah returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown as the Chariho Varsity held off Oakwood, 14-0, in a Rhode Island Preteen youth football game between undefeated teams Sunday.
Chariho (3-0) was clinging to an 8-0 lead with about two minutes remaining in the game when Collin Fitts stripped the ball from an Oakwood runner. Boamah came up with the fumble and returned it 99 yards to seal the win.
Fitts scored Chariho's other TD on a 56-yard run in the first quarter. Boamah kicked the extra point.
Corbin Maraia had four tackles for a loss and played well on defense.
Oakwood is 2-1. Chariho travels to Cumberland on Sunday.
Westerly Seniors 44, Montville 19
WATERFORD — Zach Albanese ran for three touchdowns and Drew Bozek kicked four extra points as Westerly picked up its first win Sunday.
Albanese had two scoring runs of 3 yards and another of 22.
Eric Fusaro had a 20-yard scoring run as did Romello Hamelin from 24 yards out. Andre Adams scored on a 3-yard run.
Joe Silva and Adams recovered fumbles. Fusaro and Ben Gorman stopped point after tries with tackles. Torey Augeri intercepted a pass.
Westerly (1-2) hosts Griswold next weekend.
Westerly Juniors 33, Waterford 7
WATERFORD — Terrell Hill scored five touchdowns as Westerly earned the win Sunday.
Hill scored on runs of 24, 17, 18 and 46 yards. He also caught a 14-yard TD pass from Caleb Williams.
Williams and Logan Startz each ran in an extra point. Startz also caught a conversion pass from Williams.
Braydon Antoch had eight tackles and an interception. Mateo Lamphere had three tackles for a loss. Williams Hill and JJ Sampson had one each.
Westerly hosts Griswold next weekend.
Chariho Jr. Peewees 21, Oakwood 0
CHARLESTOWN — Dustin Peno ran for two touchdowns and the Chariho Junior Peewees shut out Oakwood Sunday.
Mike Newton scored the other Chariho TD.
Gabe Corah and Luke Kenney blocked well on the scoring runs.
Newton and Carter Hopkins ran in extra point. Riley Finnerty caught a conversion pass from Reese Murphy.
Naishon Appleton-King had five tackles for a loss. Peno finished with six tackles, while Riley Finnerty and Owen Mckeen also had a few tackles each.
Chariho (2-1) next travels to Cumberland on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Chariho Peewees 33, Oakwood 0
CHARLESTOWN — Reilly Porter scored a pair of touchdowns as the Chariho Peewees defeated Oakwood on Sunday.
Porter scores on runs of 40 and 9 yards. Ethan Jones (46 yards), Izzy Woodmansee (2) and Randy Gobern (9) also scored for the Cowboys.
Harrison England and Lucas Callahan ran in extra points. Ethan Jones caught a conversion pass from Camren Jones.
Daimon Senna and Dylan Northup played well on the defensive line as the Cowboys allowed one first down. Lineman Adrien Velasquez, Callahan and Bruce Price played well on both sides of the ball. England and Austin Price had several tackles at linebacker.
Chariho faces Cumberland next week.
Griswold 41, Stonington Juniors 33
STONINGTON — Max Massengale rushed for 180 yards and scored four touchdowns for Stonington on Sunday in the loss to Griswold.
Tristan Main had the other Stonington TD, a 40-yard pass from Garrett Lenihan. Lenihan ran in three extra points.
Lenihan forced a fumble that Wyatt Woodcock recovered setting up a TD run by Massengale.
Noah Klewin contributed a 35-yard kickoff return to set up a touchdown. Defensive lineman Ben Lewis had five tackles for a loss.
Stonington hosts New London on Sunday.
