STONINGTON — Groton's Luke Sullivan topped the field in the Memorial Day Bearathon 5K road race on Monday.

Sullivan covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:53. Ledyard's Jeffrey Wadecki was second (17:35).

Jewett City's Jaclyn Sullivan was the first female finisher placing eighth overall (20:39). Melanie Diamanti, of Pawcatuck, was the next female finisher placing 12th in 22:29.

The next five local male finishers were Frank Sternberg, Stonington (third, 17:35), Brent Wiltshire, Stonington (fourth, 19:00), Gregory Cooper, Mystic (fifth, 19:27), Chad Fleming, Mystic (seventh, 20:32) and Tom Smith, Mystic (10th, 20:52).

The next five local female finishers were Claire Leatham, Wyoming (15th, 23:53), Rebecca Durham, Pawcatuck (18th, 24:54), Jaime Wolfradt, Pawcatuck (19th, 24:55), Monica Dreslin, Stonington (23rd, 26:03) and Carol McCarthy, Pawcatuck (28th, 29:12).
