EAST GREENWICH — Westerly Middle's Erin vonHousen finished second in the girls middle school cross country state championships Sunday and the Bulldogs placed second as a team.

VonHousen, an eighth grader, completed the 2-mile course in 11:49. Kiley DeFusco, a seventh grader at De La Salle, was first in 11:24.

Westerly finished with 145 points. North Cumberland was first with 48.

Westerly's Cali West was 13th (12:44) and Aine McManus placed 28th (13:26). Westerly's other two scorers were Allyson Faubert (52nd, 13:46) and Sofia Cillino (61st, 13:56).

Chariho's Jasey Vachon placed 26th in 13:25. Other scorers for the Chargers were Abby Seekell (64th, 13:48), Sadie Grissom (66th, 13:59), Chaia Elwell (86th, 14:26) and Jules White (144th, 15:09).

Chariho was 14th in the team standings with 362 points.

In the boys race, Westerly's Elias Sposato finished 14th in 11:31.

Other scorers for the Bulldogs were Connor Makin (143rd, 13:43), Brock Crowley (149, 13:46), Kyle Andrews (176th, 14:08) and Colton Barrese (182nd, 14:13)

Westerly was 24th with 651 points.

Chariho placed 18th with 503 points.

Scorers for the Chargers were Liam McIntosh (44th, 12:20), Par Slaughtenhaupt (51st, 12:26), Noah Dinucci (88th, 12:55), Everett Knerr (164th, 13:57) and Alex Connelly (165th, 13:57).

James McCarron of St. Philomenia won the boys race in 10:21. North Cumberland was the team champion with 91 points.
