WATERFORD — Garret Lenihan scored the game's only touchdown as the Stonington Juniors defeated Waterford, 6-2, in a Southern New England Youth Football Conference game Sunday.
Lenihan scored on a run up the middle. Wyatt Woodcock set up the touchdown with a 40-yard run inside the 5-yard line.
Max Massengale finished with twelve tackles and Jayse Zaharie intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards. Mason Perkins, Ben Lewis, and Talan Lyman had multiple tackles for a loss.
Waterford threatened late in the game driving inside Stonington's 20-yard run. But Stonington stopped the threat and a first down run by Lenihan sealed the win.
Stonington hosts New London on Saturday.
Chariho Varsity 32, West Warwick 13
WEST WARWICK — Chariho moved to 2-0 with Sunday's Rhode Island Preteen win against the Steelers.
Collins Fitts scored on a 22-yard run and Konnor Perrin tossed an 8-yard TD pass to Nathan Winthrop for the Cowboys.
River Spears kicked the extra point after Winthrop's score to make it 14-0.
Amani Boamah scored on a 15-yard run to give Chariho a 20-0 lead at the half.
Corbin Mariai and Lucas Corah each scored on 5-yard runs in the second half.
Logan Worsham recovered a fumble. Boamah and Winthrop led the defense with four tackles for a loss each.
Chariho hosts Oakwood on Sunday.
Chariho Jr. Peewees 20, West Warwick 0
WEST WARWICK — Chariho earned its first win of the season Sunday.
Carter Hopkins, Dustin Peno Jr. and Mike Newton all scored touchdowns for Chariho. Netwon and Hopkins also ran in extra points.
Naishon Appleton-King, Newton and Adchaeu Harris played well on the defensive side of the ball.
The Cowboys (1-1) next host the Oakwood Raiders on Sunday at home at 10 a.m.
Stonington Seniors 20, Westerly 12
WATERFORD — Stonington scored the first 14 points of the game and beat Westerly on Sunday.
Zack Albanese caught a 5-yard TD pass from Romello Hamelin and ran 13 yards for another score for Westerly.
Hamelin rushed for 140 yards and Albanese finished with 70.
Ben Gorman blocked an extra point and had 12 tackles. Eric Fusaro, Michael Poole, Gorman and Matt Garafola played well in the line for Westerly.
Westerly (0-2) plays Montville on Waterford on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Westerly Micros 12, Killingly 0
KILLINGLY — Carter Williams and Anthonie Iannella each scored a touchdown as the Westerly Micros beat Killingly, 12-7, Sunday in a Southern New England Youth Football Conference game.
Landon Husereau also played well at quarterback for Westerly. Husereau and Logan Unkuri each recovered a fumble. Logan Smith and Iannella also played well on defense.
Westerly is off hnext week, but hosts Griswold on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
