WESTERLY — Two members of the Westerly Barbell Club established New England masters records during a competition on Jan. 5 at the Robinson Weightlifting Club in Franklin, Mass.

Jared Coon set marks in the 35-39 age group, the 224-pound division and the senior class with a snatch of 297 pounds.

He also established a record of 361 pounds for the clean and jerk for the 35-39 age group. His fourth record was for a combined total of 659 pounds for his age group.

Three of the records were better than the current American records.

Patrick Shea established two New England records in the 40-44, 178-pound group. He snatched 209 pounds and had a total of 485 pounds.

Coon was a national champion last year, while Page placed second at the nationals.
