Jared Coon of Pawcatuck establishes an American record in the clean and jerk during the masters weightlifting national championships in Salt Lake City in March. Coon lifted 363 pounds and snatched 291 pounds in 35-39 age group. He finished first with a combined total of 654 pounds. It was the second straight year Coon has finished first at the event. Coon holds five American records.
