PUTNAM — Wheeler High used a strong pitching performance in the first game and a big inning in the second to sweep an ECC Division IV softball doubleheader against Putnam on Tuesday.

Wheeler won the opener, 2-1, and took the second game, 11-8.

Addie Hauptmann struck out 13 and pitched all seven innings to earn the win in the opener. She allowed just one earned run.

Wheeler (2-4, 2-3 ECC Division IV) scored both its runs in the first inning. Julie Rudd drove in Hauptmann with one of the runs on a single.

In the second game, Wheeler fell behind 8-1, but scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-8 lead.

Hauptmann tied the score with a hard single that got past the Putnam outfield. The miscue allowed Hauptmann and two others to score.

Maddie Perkins finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Julia Ahern and Cassie Fonnemann also had RBIs.

Ahern pitched all seven innings to earn the victory. She struck out six.

Putnam dropped to 1-8, 0-8.
