WESTERLY — Mt. Hope scored a run in the top of the eighth and upset Westerly, 5-4, in the preliminary round of the Division II softball tournament Wednesday at Cimalore Field.

Westerly, the No. 2 seed from the Thornton/Sullivan divisions, fell behind 4-0 after three innings, but rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Mt. Hope had a runner on with one out in the top of the eighth when a Westerly error on a bunt allowed the go-ahead run to score from first base.

Mt. Hope, the No. 7 seed from the Marquis/Penkala divisions, improved to 8-9. The Huskies next face Scituate in the quarterfinals.

Westerly finished 13-7.
