WEST GREENWICH — Timmary Main and Alex Mitchell both homered as Westerly High shut out Exeter-West Greenwich, 12-0, in a Division II softball game Saturday.

The game was ended after the fifth inning by the mercy rule.

Both homers came in the fifth inning over the left-field fence.

Main's was a three-run shot, while Mitchell's was a solo homer. Main also doubled and finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Mitchell was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Ally Northup and Miranda Carreiro contributed three hits each, and Carreiro and Emma Stahl finished with two RBIs each.

Stahl and Elena Murdock were each 2 for 4. Westerly had 20 hits in the game.

Northup allowed just three hits and struck out eight to earn the win. She walked just one batter.

EWG dropped to 6-6, 5-6 Division II.

Westerly (9-4, 9-3) next hosts Johnston on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Johnston and Westerly are tied for first place in Division II-Thornton with 9-3 records.

Westerly won the first meeting between the two teams, 9-7, on April 3.
