WESTERLY — The Rhody Wave Runners softball team swept a doubleheader on Sunday, defeating the RI Rampage of Burrillville, 8-0, and the Lumber Yard from Massachusetts, 13-3 at Cimalore Field.

Ava D’Ortona pitched a complete game in the opener, striking out five and walking one. She lowered her ERA for the fall to 0.40. Jett Cronin and Tori Gabriele each had a hit and two runs scored. Cronin stole two bases.

In the second game, Tori Gabriele and Lyla Auth combined for a no-hitter. Gabriele struck out six and Auth struck out two. The Wave Runners had 11 hits led by Eden Hewes who had two hits and five RBIs. D’Ortona and Ella Keegan each had three hits.

The Wave Runners improved to 8-0 this fall in the USA Rhode Island 12U Open League. Next weekend, the Wave Runners will play in the Weekend Warrior Tournament in West Warwick. Rhody will have pool play games on Saturday at 9:00 am and 10:30 am at Riverpoint Park.
