WEST WARWICK — The Rhody Wave Runners lost in the quarterfinals of the Weekend Warrior 12U softball tournament on Sunday.

The Wave Runners were eliminated by the Cranston Fusion, 3-0. The team started the day with a win against the Fury from Pawtucket, 12-3.

In the opener, Tori Gabriele was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Shortstop Maya Henderson added two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. 

Pitcher Ava D’Ortona earned the win. She went three innings and struck out five.

Gabriele had the team's only hit in the loss to the Fusion.  D’Ortona pitched five innings, allowing one earned run.

Rhody entered the single-elimination portion of the tournament as the third seed of 14 teams following a 2-0 record in pool play.

The loss ended the tournament season for the team, which posted a record of 21-12.

For the year, Gabriele hit .474 with 29 RBIs and 32 runs scored; Lyla Auth hit .403 with 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored; D’Ortona hit .368 with 25 RBIs and 35 runs scored; and Ella Keegan hit .346 with 27 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
