GROTON — Addie Hauptmann pitched a five-inning no-hitter and drove in four runs as Wheeler High routed Grasso Tech, 27-0, in a nonleague softball game Monday.
The contest, Wheeler's season finale, was halted after five innings by the mercy rule.
Hauptmann, a freshman, struck out nine and walked two. The two free passes accounted for Grasso Tech's only base runners.
"It's the best game she's thrown all year," Lions coach Joe Cawley said. "She kept the ball low, threw strikes and they really didn't have a chance at hitting her. She spotted the ball well, and there were a lot of quick innings."
Hauptmann was 4 for 6 with a double, triple, three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Lions' offense, which pounded out 24 hits.
Savannah Galluci was 4 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, and Madde Perkins was also 4 for 5 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Marissa Bergel and Molly Butremovic each added two hits, including doubles, and Sophia Lamphere and Julia Ahern had two hits apiece.
Bergel, Julie Rudd and Juliona Martens each added two RBIs.
Grasso Tech fell to 1-17. Wheeler finished its season 6-11.
