STONINGTON — Griswold grabbed an early lead and held off Stonington High, 9-7, in an ECC Division II softball game Tuesday.
Griswold (6-2, 3-0 ECC Division II) led 7-1 after 4½ innings. But Stonington responded with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. The Bears (3-2, 2-1) finished with 13 hits.
Miranda Arruda, Maggie Constantine, Maddie Stepski, Tori LoPresto and Shea O'Connor finished with two hits each. Constantine and LoPresto each drove in two runs.
"We didn't give up. We left 10 runners in scoring position," Stonington coach Ann-Marie Houle said. "We made a couple of errors and misplayed some balls that go in the book as a base hit but should have been caught."
Phoebe Werling had a good defensive game in left field, Houle said.
Stonington starter Katie Sanford pitched into the seventh inning and struck out two. She took the loss.
Stonington next hosts Fryeburg, Maine, on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
