GROTON — Johnston High graduate Nick Raposa hit a grand slam in the first inning to lead the Martha's Vineyard Sharks to an 8-4 victory over the Mystic Schooners in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game Friday at Fitch High.

Raposa (Wheaton) finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs.

Montville High grad TT Bowens (Central Connecticut) homered for the second straight night for the Schooners (10-6), who lost their third consecutive game.

Isaiah Byars (Alabama), Jerome Huntzinger (Seton Hall) and Nolan Kessinger (UMass Amherst) each added two hits.

Mystic starter Luke La Flam (Arizona State) took the loss. La Flam (0-1) lasted just one inning and allowed six runs on four hits, five walks and a hit batter.
