GROTON — TT Bowens hit a grand slam as the Mystic Schooners defeated Danbury, 9-1, to split a doubleheader with the Westerners on Monday night in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Danbury (19-21) won the opener, 3-2.

Bowens (Central Connecticut) delivered the grand slam in the second inning when the Schooners scored five runs. It was Bowens' 14th homer of the season and he increased his RBI total to 47. He leads the NECBL in both categories.

Bowens won the league's home run derby on Sunday.

Steven Barmakian (George Washington) was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Barmakian also homered, as did Will Lucas (Connecticut).

Nolan Kessinger (Massachusetts) finished 2 for 5.

Starter Ryan McLinskey (Seton Hall) pitched the first six innings to earn the win. McLinskey (2-0) struck out seven.

In the opener, Danbury scored a run in the top of the eighth to pick up the victory. Kessinger had two hits and doubled.

Mystic improved to 21-19-1.
