Nicholas Celico and Derek Jacobs, both of Westerly, finished fourth in their events at the New England indoor track championships for the University of Rhode Island.

Celico, who attended Bishop Hendricken High, was fourth in the 5,000 with a personal-best time of 14:50.25 on Friday. Jacobs, who attended Westerly High, threw the shot a season-best 51-0.75 on Saturday.

URI was third with 114 points.

Westerly's John Walker won the 5,000 for the Eastern Connecticut State University track team at the Utica College Track and Field Invitational on Jan. 18.

Walker, a sophomore, finished with a time of 16:38.95. Walker is a Westerly High graduate. The team placed second with 113 points.

Stonington's Ben Abely finished ninth in the 200 at the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut.

Abely, a freshman at Lasell University, finished with a time of 24.25 seconds. Abely is a Stonington High graduate.
