GROTON — Nolan Arruda won his match at No. 1, but the Wheeler High golf team lost to Fitch, 5.5-1.5, at Shennecossett Golf Course on Tuesday in the season-opening match for both teams.

Arruda finished with a 54 on the par-36 course. Wheeler's Bryce Reck tied his match at No. 3 after shooting a 53.

Fitch took the two-point team medal after shooting a 200. Wheeler finished with a 214.

Others who contributed to the Wheeler score were Alec Rustici (50) and Ryan Hair (57).

Wheeler is off until April 23 when it travels to Tourtellotte for a 3 p.m. match.
