NORTH STONINGTON — Freshman Brooke Dowrey had a goal and goalkeeper Addie Hauptmann was credited with 17 saves in Wheeler High's season-opening 5-1 girls soccer loss to St. Bernard on Thursday.

The Saints outshot the Lions 27-4 in the ECC out-of-division game.

Katelyn Melinosky assisted on Dowrey's goal for Wheeler, which next visits New London for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
