NORTH STONINGTON — Griswold scored on a 40-yard shot over the head of Wheeler High goalie Addie Hauptmann and into the corner of the net and the Wolverines went on to a 1-0 victory in an ECC out-of-division girls soccer game Wednesday.

The goal for Griswold (3-6) came with about 20 minutes left in the second half.

"It was a very evenly matched game," Wheeler coach Kellie Palmer said in an email. "They had a very lucky shot. Our effort and heart was displayed in this game more than ever. I could not be more proud of the way my girls played."

The Lions (0-8) had 20 shots on goal. Hauptmann finished with 29 saves.

Wheeler next hosts Windham on Monday at 4:15 p.m.
