STONINGTON — Stonington High put three runners in the top 10 and split its ECC girls cross country opener on Tuesday.

Stonington defeated Bacon Academy, 24-35, in an ECC Division II race, but lost to NFA, 21-42, in an ECC out-of-division race.

Bobbie Doherty was the first Stonington runner across the line covering the 3.1-mile course in 21:31, good for fifth. Lily Anderson placed seventh in 22:05 and Chloe Morehouse finished ninth in 22:15.

Stonington's other two scorers were Maddie Hamm (10th, 22:30) and Mary Gray (15th, 23:06).

Stonington next competes against Wateford and Putnam on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The meet will take place at Harkness Park in Waterford.
