WESTERLY — Westerly High got as close eight points late in the second half, but fell to Coventry, 61-47, in a Division II girls basketball game Monday night.

Jackie Fusaro led the Bulldogs with 11 points, and Mackenzie Fusaro scored 10, including three 3-pointers.

Coach Sue Haik said Westerly trailed by eight points with a minute and a half to go, but the Oakers pulled away on the strength of their free-throw shooting.

"They made their free throws, and we missed our shots," she said.

Alexa Beal added 11 rebounds for Westerly (1-7, 1-2 Division II).

Madison Dessert scored 19 points for Coventry (3-3, 3-2).

Westerly next hosts Cranston East on Friday at 7 p.m.
