GROTON — Miranda Arruda scored 23 points and Zoe Ribeiro finished with 14 as the Stonington High girls basketball team defeated Fitch, 56-28, in the ECC-Division II opener for both schools.

Stonington led 18-2 at the end of the first quarter and was never threatened after that. The Bears led 44-13 at the half.

Arruda also had six rebounds and seven steals. Ribeiro finished with six rebounds.

Kate Johnson contributed eight points and five steals.

Aliza Bell led the Bears in rebounds with 14 and her younger sister, Sophia, finished with 11.

Stonington hosts NFA on Thursday at 7 p.m.
