NEW BRITAIN — Stonington High's Joey Hinckley finished second in the pole vault and so did the 4x100 relay team in school-record time at the boys Class M track meet Wednesday at Willow Brook Park.

Hinckley cleared 13-0 feet, trailing only Aidan O'Connor of Lewis Mills (14-3). Hinckley cleared 13 feet on his final attempt at that height to qualify for the State Open.

The 4x100 relay team of Ben Abely, Justin McKenna, Martin Vernet and Sam Inthasit posted a time of 44.21.

Stonington finished 10th in the team standings with 29 points. Tolland was first with 68, and Windham placed second with 56.

Rhys Hammond placed fourth in the 800 (1:58.57) and the 1,600 (4:25.59), qualifying for the Open in both events.

George Limberakis placed seventh in the pole vault (11-0). The 4x400 team of Limberakis, Hinckley, Ethan Allen-Fernandez and Hammond finished eighth (3:33.28).

The Open take places Monday at Willow Brook Park at 2 p.m.
