Preview: Stonington boys’ tennis

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — A Stonington High singles player and one of its doubles teams advanced to the third round of the Class S boys state tennis tournament Friday at Conard High.

Jake Stiger, the No. 4 seed, beat Old Saybrook's Luke Brodeur (6-1, 6-0) and Haddam-Killingworth's Gorka Barrueta Azaola (6-0, 6-0).

Stiger will face Wamogo's Nolan Tutoro in the third round when the tournament resumes Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Graham Johnstone and Kyle Remmert also picked up a win in doubles.

They beat Immaculate's Aiden Finnegan and Andrew Talarico (6-1, 6-0). Johnstone and Remmert, the No. 4 seed, had a bye in the opening round.

They face Housatonic Regional's Ian Danforth-Gold and Harrison Tillou in the third round Saturday.

Stonington's Sean Bessette won his opening singles match against Shepaug Valley's Noah Levine (6-3, 6-4), but lost to No. 9 seed Joe Wilson, of Immaculate, (6-3, 6-1).

No. 11 Will Michelson lost to Litchfield's Ryan Garden in the opening round (6-2, 3-6, 10-8).

In doubles, Jack Ramsdell and Quinn Hamilton lost to No. 14 Conner Wyman and Theodore Wayland, of Old Lyme, (6-2, 6-1).

No. 15 Filip Aubrecht and Nate Gonzalez lost to Valley Regional's Hayden Lombardi and Nicholas Wyskowski, 2-6, 7-6 (4) 10-7.
