BARRINGTON — Westerly High won three matches in three sets and earned a spot in the Division III boys tennis tournament's title match after defeating Shea/Tolman, 4-2, Thursday.

No. 2 Westerly (13-2) will face No. 1 Coventry at Slater Park in Pawtucket on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Westerly picked up two wins in doubles. Sebastian Reisch and Chris Celico won 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. No. 3 Brendan McAteer and Jackie Chen were 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 winners.

"At every practice I have told Jackie and Brendan they would have to win a big match if we wanted to achieve our goal of winning states. And today was that day," Westerly coach Terence McAndrew said. "They were able to hold their nerves and trust their technique to clinch the match and send us on our way to the finals."

McAndrew said three of those four players started the sport just eight weeks ago.

In singles, No. 2 Ryan Teixeira was a 7-5, 6-2 winner. No. 3. J.D. Dauphinais won 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
