NEW LONDON — Stonington High's Alex Doerwaldt won two events but the Fitch co-op swim team fell to East Lyme, 92-78, in an ECC meet Friday at the UConn Avery Point pool.

Doerwaldt was first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.34 and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.13).

Wheeler High's Mike Urgo also swam to a first place — in the 50 freestyle (23.50) — for the co-op team, which is made up of swimmers from Fitch, Ledyard, New London, Stonington and Wheeler.

Finishing second were Urgo in the 100 butterfly (23.50), Stonington's Harmut Doerwaldt in the 500 free (5:11.59) and AJ Murko in the 100 free (51.33).

Third-place finishers were Stonington's Matt Nowak in the 200 individual medley (2:16.92), Murko in the 100 backstroke (1:00.31) and Sam Youtt in the 500 freestyle (5:21.81).

Murko and Hartmut Doerwaldt were members of the winning 400 free relay team, and Nowak and Alex Doerwaldt were part of the first-place 200 free relay team.

Urgo, Murko and Hartmut Doerwaldt swam on the second-place 200 medley relay team.
