NORTH STONINGTON — Wheeler High opened its boys soccer season with a 3-0 loss to Windham on Friday in an ECC out-of-division game.

The Whippets, who reached the Class M state quarterfinals last season, led 2-0 at the half.

Bowen Baker finished with nine saves in goal for the Lions, who were narrowly outshot 12-10.

"We played very well," Wheeler coach Joe Mendonca said. "I'm very happy with some of the younger kids that we have. Max Seeley was good in the middle, Lukas Jones (center back) did a good job and Blake Stedman (outside back) also played well. Overall, I'm very pleased."

Wheeler next plays at Lyman Memorial on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
