STONINGTON — Stonington High limited St. Bernard/Wheeler to just one goal through three quarters to emerge with a 7-3 victory in an ECC Division II boys lacrosse game on Saturday.
St. Bernard/Wheeler (7-4, 4-3 ECC Division II) had defeated the Bears, 8-2, on April 18.
"We had a couple of guys that we didn't have in that first game [due to injury], and they were missing a couple today," Stonington coach Nick Warhola said. "Our defense was the name of the game today. [Goalie] Tyler Flynn had a great game.
"Kyle Marino and Justin Turner did a great job down low on defense."
Flynn came up with nine saves.
Stonington (8-5, 4-3) trailed 1-0 after the first quarter, but scored the next five goals to lead 5-1 after three periods.
Lucian Kronholm and Sean Peglow finished with two goals each for Stonington. Christian Hudson contributed a goal and two assists. Aaron Lahah and Marco Tedeschi each added a goal.
Stonington won 27 of 40 ground balls and eight of 14 faceoffs.
Stonington next travels to Ledyard-Griswold on Monday for a 4 p.m. game
