SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Stonington High's Rhys Hammond finished second in the 1,600 in a closely contested race at the Rhody Classic Track and Field Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.

Hammond turned in a time of 4:26.11, just .03 seconds behind Montville's Sam Whittaker (4:26.08).

Greyson DelGrosso finished third in the shot put (45-3.5). Chase Flynn placed fifth in the 600 (1:27.87), and Joey Hinckley was sixth in the 300 (37.24).

Stonington's 4x400 team of Flynn, Hinckley, Graham Johnstone and Hammond finished second in 3:36.80.
