STONINGTON — Stonington High's Nathan Gonzalez edged Norwich Free Academy's Peyton Ramsey to open the ECC boys cross country season on Tuesday.

Gonzalez finished with a time of 17:03, while Ramsey was right behind in 17:04.

Stonington beat Bacon Academy, 19-36, in an ECC Division II race, but lost to NFA, 23-36, in an ECC out-of-division race. NFA beat Bacon, 15-50.

Other scorers for the Bears were Ryan Gruczka (fourth, 17:15), Hartmut Doerwaldt (eighth, 17:43), Daniel Robinson (ninth, 17:45) and Filip Aubrecht (16th, 20:01).

Stonington next competes on Tuesday against Waterford and Putnam at 3:30 p.m. The meet will take place at Waterford's Harkness Park.
