EAST GREENWICH — Chariho High's Joe Golas finished 11th and the Chargers placed second in the Hathaway race at the Injury Fun Carnival boys cross country race Saturday.

Golas posted a time of 17:45. Chariho finished with 60 points. La Salle, the defending New England champion, was first with a perfect score of 15. La Salle placed nine runners in the top 10.

Other Chariho scorers were Dan Nimiroski (12th, 17:54), Simon Manlove (14th, 17:56), C.J. Elwell (16th, 18:08) and Josh Smithey (20th, 18:40).

The race was one of four run on the day.

Chariho opens the season on Sept. 20 at Exeter-West Greenwich at 4 p.m. Rogers and West Warwick will also be competing.
