GROTON — Scott Pion scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds as Wheeler High ended a nine-game skid with a nonleague boys basketball win against Grasso Tech, 72-63, Monday night.
Michael Warren scored 18 points and Bowen Baker finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
"We were able to get out and run a little bit," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said. "We got some easy layups. We moved the ball very well and the last four minutes we were able to close out the game well. We made some free throws.
"Pion was immense and he played great defense. Warren had his best game of the year. It was a great team effort."
Ian Spracklin scored 13 points and Liam Patrick contributed 10 rebounds.
Grasso Tech dropped to 3-13. Wheeler (5-12) plays Montville at Stonington on Friday at 7 p.m.
