NORWICH — Wheeler High made a defensive change in the second quarter and it helped the Lions' boys basketball team defeat Norwich Tech, 52-41, in a nonleague game Monday night.
"The first quarter was kind of sluggish. We went to man to man and kind of blitzed them in the second quarter," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said.
Wheeler outscored the Warriors 18-4 in the second quarter to lead at the half, 31-17.
Scott Pion led the Lions in scoring with 20 points including three 3-pointers. Pion scored 12 points in the second quarter.
Michael Warren contributed 11 points. Bowen Baker finished with nine and also lead the team in rebounds (14) and assists (eight).
Norwich Tech dropped to 2-17. Wheeler (5-12) next travels to Hale-Ray on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
