PROVIDENCE — Juanita Sanchez scored 40 points in the second half and held off Westerly High, 66-64, in a Division II boys basketball game Monday night.

The Cavaliers took a five-point lead with about four minutes remaining on back-to-back, heavily contested 3-pointers by Fabricio Mitogo and held on for the victory.

Westerly came up with a steal in the final 10 seconds and got off a shot. But the shot, which rimmed out, came after the final buzzer.

"It was a back-and-forth game and neither team held more than a five-point lead," Westerly coach Mike Gleason said. "They are one of the quality teams in D-II. They have two very close losses and could easily be undefeated in D-II.

"We had our chances at a tough place to get a win."

Chas Morgan led Westerly with 17 points and three 3-pointers. Patrick Murphy finished with 17. Bereket Janat had 13 rebounds and six assists.

Mitogo led Juanita Sanchez (4-3, 2-2 Division II) with 25 points.

Westerly (6-3, 3-2) next hosts league-leading Barrington on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
