STONINGTON — Zach Scott scored 16 points and R.J. Parrilla finished with 15 as Stonington High defeated Wheeler High, 78-31, in an ECC out-of-division boys basketball game on Thursday night.
Scott made three 3-pointers.
"They came out of the gate pretty strong," Stonington coach John Luzzi said of Wheeler. "We turned up the defensive heat in the second quarter, got some steals and were able to get out ahead of them."
Stonington led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, and outscored the Lions 27-9 in the second quarter to lead 45-20 at the half.
Stonington's Marco Tedeschi made four 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 14 points. Dorian White hit three 3-pointers and contributed nine points.
Scott led the Bears in rebounding with eight.
Scott Pion and Bowen Baker scored nine points each for Wheeler.
Stonington (8-2) next travels to New London on Saturday for a 5 p.m. game.
Wheeler (3-7) next travels to Haddam-Killingworth on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
