STONINGTON — Montville got off to a quick start and Wheeler High could not make up the deficit, falling to the Indians, 62-37, in an ECC Division IV boys basketball game Friday.
Montville led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
"We were down 17-6. We made up some in the third quarter," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said.
Ian Spracklin led the Lions in scoring with 12 points and Scott Pion had 10, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Spracklin also led the team in rebounding with seven.
With the victory, Montville improved to 6-11, 3-3 ECC Division IV.
Wheeler has played every game on the road this season because its gym is unavailable due to a school construction project. Friday's games at Stonington served as Senior Night for both the boys and girls teams.
Wheeler (4-12, 0-7 ECC Division IV) next travels to Norwich Tech on Monday for 7 p.m. game.
