PLAINFIELD — Plainfield broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and beat Wheeler High, 51-34, in an ECC out-of-division boys basketball game Friday.

Wheeler (1-2) trailed by eight points, 32-24, heading into the fourth quarter. Plainfield outscored Wheeler 19-10 in the final period.

"We didn't shoot the ball well and we didn't pass the ball well," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said.

Cobleigh said the Lions had a tough time defending Plainfield post player Markeith Conyers, who scored 20 points.

Bowen Baker led the Lions with 12 points, and Ian Spracklin had 11. Scott Pion finished with six rebounds.

Plainfield moved to 1-1.

Wheeler next plays at Ellis Tech on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
