MONTVILLE — R.J. Parrilla had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists and Zach Scott scored a game-high 19 points to lead Stonington High over Montville, 73-38, in an ECC out-of-division boys basketball game Wednesday.
The Bears (13-5) led 31-16 at halftime but got off to a slow start, coach John Luzzi said.
"Once we picked up the pace, moved the ball and got out in transition while they were setting up their zone, we were able to get the looks we wanted," Luzzi said.
Cooper Wall hit four 3-pointers and had 16 points, and Jacob Geary scored 12 for Stonington. Scott sunk three 3-pointers. Ayden Morrison led the team in rebounding with 10.
Parrilla had six boards and five steals go along with his 10 assists.
"He really did a great job distributing the ball, setting up guys for open looks," Luzzi said, noting Parrilla made just one turnover. "He made a lot of great decisions."
Zach Southard scored 13 points for Montville (6-12).
The Bears, who are 5-1 in ECC Division III, next host league-leader St. Bernard (15-3, 6-0 Division III) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Saints are in the midst of a 13-game winning streak.
