MONTVILLE — Montville held off Wheeler High to post a 50-43 ECC Division IV boys basketball victory Thursday.

The Indians outscored the Lions 15-9 in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.

"We moved the ball better, but we had some problems finishing inside," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said. "We left a lot of points on the board, missing layups and putbacks. But we played well defensively. Southard and Champagne were tough for us inside, but it was a hard-fought game."

Zach Southard scored 16 points, and Ryan Champagne had 12 for Montville (3-4, 1-1 Division IV).

Bowen Baker led the Lions (3-5, 0-3) with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, 10 rebounds and three steals. Liam Patrick hit three 3-pointers and had 10 points, and Ian Spracklin scored 10.

Wheeler next visits Putnam on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
