MOODUS, Conn. — Hale-Ray outscored Wheeler High by nine points in the fourth quarter and defeated the Lions, 57-44, in a nonleague boys basketball game Wednesday night.

Wheeler only trailed by four, 42-38, after three quarters.

"We shot lights out in the first half, but our defense wasn't good in the second half and neither was our ball movement," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said. "When we don't have the ball, we have problems scoring."

Scott Pion led the Lions in scoring with 14 points. Bower Baker contributed 11. Liam Patrick led the team in rebounds with seven.

Hale-Ray improved to 4-13.

Wheeler (5-13) next travels to Putnam on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
