NORTH STONINGTON — Wheeler High built a big first-half lead with pressure defense and topped winless Norwich Tech, 55-19, in a nonleague boys basketball game Wednesday night.

"We were able to get some turnovers early with our defense," Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said.

The Lions led 37-12 at the half.

Lukas Jones and Scott Pion each scored 15 points for Wheeler (4-4). Jones made three 3-pointers, and Pion hit a pair. Ian Spracklin finished with 12 points, including two 3-pointers.

Baker and Spracklin were the top rebounders for Wheeler with seven apiece. Baker added five assists and five steals.

Norwich Tech dropped to 0-8 with the loss.

Wheeler (4-4) next hosts Lyman Memorial on Friday at 7 p.m.
