WESTERLY — Westerly High opened the second half with a big surge to run its winning streak to 10, beating Pilgrim 71-44 in a Division II boys basketball game Wednesday night.

Westerly (16-4, 13-3 Division II) outscored Pilgrim (3-17, 3-14), 14-2, to open the second half.

"We didn't play particularly well in the first half, but early in the second half we had put the lead over 30," Westerly coach Mike Gleason said. "We took care of business."

Patrick Murphy led the Bulldogs with 16 points and six steals. Chas Morgan added nine points, and Nick Lauzon, Bereket Janat and Jawarie Hamelin finished with eight each as 10 player scored.

Cole Riley led the team with 11 rebounds and Janat contributed 10. Janat also had six assists, and Jalen Valentin finished with five steals.

Westerly next travels to Tiverton on Friday for a 7 p.m game.
