WESTERLY — Westerly High put up 37 points in the second half to surge past Tolman, 58-48, in a Division II boys basketball game Thursday night.
Westerly (15-2, 12-1 Division II) has won 15 of 16 games after opening the season with a loss to Division I North Kingstown.
"Tolman is known for their D. They are lanky and athletic," Westerly coach Mike Gleason said. "It took us awhile to figure out their defense. We were finally able to solve their zone defense in the second half. We turned them over a little bit more in the second half, too."
Westerly trailed 23-21 at the half, but outscored the Tigers 37-25 in the second half.
Chas Morgan led the Bulldogs in scoring with 19 points, including a 5-for-5 showing at the free-throw line.
Patrick Murphy finished with 11 points, all in the second half. Jawarie Hamelin added eight points, nine rebounds, eight assists and five steals, Nick Lauzon had eight points and six rebounds, and Bryon Dunn scored seven points.
Isai Prince led the Tigers (11-7, 8-5) with 15 points.
Westerly next travels to Burrillville on Monday for a 7 p.m. game.
