DANIELSON — Bowen Baker scored a game-high 28 points and Wheeler High pulled away in the third quarter for a 60-50 boys basketball victory over Ellis Tech on Thursday.
Scott Pion added 15 points for the Lions (2-2) in the nonleague game.
Wheeler led 23-20 at halftime before outscoring Ellis Tech 20-12 in the third quarter.
"It was a great defensive effort spearheaded by Seth Jones, who came in and put all kinds of pressure on their point guard (Antonio Rojas)," Lions coach Neal Cobleigh said. "And we rebounded better in the third and fourth quarters."
Baker added six rebounds, four assists and three steals to go with his 28 points. "He was very good late in the game," Cobleigh said.
Cobleigh also praised Cerek Keramidas for his defense on Codi Beshaw, who was limited to 11 points. Karamidas had five rebounds and five assists.
Rojas led the Eagles (0-3) with 12 points.
The Lions next visit Norwich Tech on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. game.
