STONINGTON — Stonington High scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and pitcher Creighton Wesson allowed just one hit in a 14-0 victory over Wheeler in an ECC out-of-division baseball game Monday.

The game was ended in the fifth inning by the mercy rule.

The Bears (6-6) led 4-0 before plating 10 runners in the fifth. Wesson and Jake Verbridge each had two-run singles to highlight the inning.

Wesson finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Verbridge was 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Peter Fernholz added two hits and two RBIs, and Bob Dimock scored twice and drove in two runs.

On the mound, Wesson gave up one hit and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.

The Lions (3-4) made five errors. Aidan Cameron had their lone hit.

Stonington next plays St. Bernard on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Dodd Stadium. Wheeler plays Wednesday against Montville at 4 p.m. at Dodd.
