WESTERLY — Barrington scored both its runs in the seventh inning and went on to defeat Westerly, 2-1, in a preliminary-round game of the Division II baseball playoffs Wednesday at Cimalore Field.

Jackson Shaffer had an RBI single for the Bulldogs, who finished 13-8.

Barrington (11-9) got an infield single to lead off its half of the seventh. After a steal of second, that run came home on a single. Two outs later, a single, a walk and an error scored what proved to be the game-winning run.

Shaffer drove in Zach Beckler in the first inning. Beckler (2 for 3) had singled and stolen second.

Both teams finished with five hits.

Phil Pedersen was tagged with the tough-luck loss for Westerly. He allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits in 6⅔ innings. He struck out six and walked one.
