WESTERLY — Westerly High couldn't get its offense going against North Providence and fell to the Cougars, 3-2, in a Division II game Friday.

Nick Conte and P.J. Rioles combined on a two-hitter for North Providence (2-2, 2-2 Division II). Conte allowed both Westerly runs, one earned, on one hit and five walks in four innings. He struck out six.

The loss spoiled a fine pitching effort from the Bulldogs' Matt Brissette, who went 6⅔ innings and gave up one earned run on six hits and three walks. He fanned five.

Koby Varas had both hits for Westerly (2-2, 2-2), including a bunt single. Mike Fiore added an RBI and scored once, and Phil Pedersen walked three times and also scored once.

Westerly next hosts Stonington on Saturday at 2 p.m.
