WESTERLY — Westerly High left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and had the tying run on second in the seventh before losing to Woonsocket, 9-8, in a Division II baseball game Tuesday at Cimalore Field.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Westerly (13-6, 12-5 Division II).
Zack Beckler finished 4 for 5 with a pair of RBIs. Beckler drove in both of his runs with a single in the fourth. Beckler leads the team with a .518 average.
Mike Fiore was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs, and Tom Algier finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Starter Matt Brissette pitched the first three innings and took the loss. Algier, the team's top pitcher last season, also made his first appearance of the season with an inning of relief. He has been unable to pitch due to a shoulder injury.
"His velocity was good and he had a good curveball," Westerly coach Ron Sposato said.
Sposato said Algier will be available for some relief work during the postseason.
Woonsocket improved to 8-9, 8-9. Westerly next travels to Woonsocket on Wednesday. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
