WESTERLY — Tom Algier drove in three runs and Spencer Bernat a pair as Westerly High topped Classical, 6-1, in a Division II baseball game Tuesday at Cimalore Field.
Algiere (2 for 4) had a two-out, two-run single in the second inning and an RBI triple in the sixth.
Bernat, who walked three times, drove in two runs in the sixth with a double. Westerly put up three runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
Luke Gentile (2 for 3) drove in a run with a two-out double in the fifth.
"We left some on early in the game, but we started getting the big hits later in the game," Westerly coach Ron Sposato said.
Greg Gorman was 2 for 4 with a double.
Starter Phil Pedersen pitched the first five innings to earn the win. He allowed just two hits, one earned run and struck out five.
Classical dropped to 1-4, 1-4 Division II. Westerly (3-2, 3-2) next travels to Classical on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.
