STONINGTON — Bob Dimock had a three-run double to highlight Stonington High's seven-run fourth inning, and the Bears defeated Wheeler High, 16-8, in an ECC out-of-division baseball game Thursday.

Wheeler had tied the game, 8-all, in the top of the fourth before the Bears pulled away in their half of the inning.

Sam Casadei and Drew Champagne each had three hits and three RBIs for Stonington (2-1). Jake Verbridge had three hits, including a double, scored three runs and drove in one.

Dave Rebich came on in relief to start the third and earned the win. He allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out one.

Eric Henderson had a two-run single in the fourth for Wheeler (1-1). Bowen Baker, Lukas Jones, Connor Melinoski and Matt Pierce each had two hits, and Melinosky had two RBIs.

Stonington next plays at Ledyard on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Wheeler faces Windham at Dodd Stadium on Friday at 4.
